About Us

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH

Arbuckle Parks and Recreation have been operating in the Arbuckle Area solely from community donations and other government agencies.  In the past several years Arbuckle Parks and Recreation in coordination with the Arbuckle Revitalization Committee has been creating some community parks.  Our joint efforts were formed out of the CEDS (Community Economic Development Strategy) plan for Arbuckle.  In 1999 this plan was accepted, and action items outlined for our committee.  The beautification of Arbuckle and the creation of a downtown parks plan were first on our list.

Since 1999 the two committees have created the “Wee Park,” a beautification project at the intersection of Old hwy 99 and Hillgate Road.  The “KIA Memorial Park” in downtown Arbuckle, a project that also recognized members of the Arbuckle and College City communities killed during a foreign war.  Finally, we are developing the “Lavanch Hursh Park”, this park is also a downtown park that will have picnic areas, a covered pergola for events in the park, and central location for community events. We have obtained new park equipment through a business donation in Balfour Park. For the Recreation portion of the plan we have created and implemented the “Swim Program,” at the Arbuckle Pool.  We now also offer Adult Aerobics, a Tot Tumbling Class and Yoga.  We will be starting new programs in the Fall, such as youth basketball.

We have been operating exclusively as a volunteer operation.  It is now time to formalize our efforts into a district that will be able to expand on our creation and maintain all of the wonderful parks and recreation opportunities we have created.

The key to a strong and well connected community is having centralized locations and events where our community members can come together.  Connectedness and interaction amongst community members is they key to successful and safe communities.  Forming the Arbuckle Parks and Recreation District will create a formal long term facilitator for these needs.
